Altered Self-Portraits
Each students chose a charater that they wanted to be and used elements of that
character within their self-portraits. Chalk pastel was used to create these altered
self-portraits along with a number of previous steps. Students learned about facial
proportions, shading, and value. They also studied self portraits of other artists
throughout history from Durer to Chuck Close.
